Obituary for Anya Camille Valenciano

Anya Camille Valenciano was born on October 27, 2006 in Gallup, New Mexico to Rachael Sayre and Juan Valenciano. Three years later, they moved to Blackwell, OK where she made the most of her eight years.

Anya was a very creative little girl who loved painting and arts and crafts. Cooking was one of her favorite past times and she cooked every day. She enjoyed dancing and listening to all kinds of music with her family. Although Anya didn’t spend too much time in traditional school, her inquisitive nature kept her on track with her peers and allowed her to play school and teach her little cousins.

On October 20, 2013, Anya was diagnosed with leukemia, just one week before her 7th birthday. While at the hospital receiving treatments, she made friends with two therapy dogs named Whisky and Willard. Her family called her the “Little Dog Whisperer.” Anya died on August 5, 2015 at OU Medical Center in OKC.

A memorial service will be held at Blackwell First United Methodist Church on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Donations may be made online at Anya’s GoFundMe account ( and type “Rachael Sayre” into the search bar) or on the day of the service.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Elija Valenciano, her grandpa, Richard Sayre, and her grandma, Maria Ramos.

She is survived by her parents, her grandma, Iola Lanius, her sister, Mahcala Pollard, half-sister, Jasmin Valenciano, brothers, Isaiah and Cesar Valenciano, cousins, Aaliyah Navarrete, Isabella Delano, Christopher Connolly, and many others. She is also survived by four aunties and four uncles.

Services are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home of Blackwell.
